Devudu Story
The film opens with a heartbreaking scene: a couple abandon their newborn at a temple, unable to raise him because of a congenital abnormality. Yet, the Goddess blesses the child with life. A noble village elder, Rayudu, adopts him and names him Devudu. The boy grows into a guileless, golden-hearted simpleton adored by the villagers, though he harbors resentment toward marriage, believing his parents forsook him because of it.
Trouble brews when Ganga Raju, envious of Rayudu’s authority, plots revenge after his brother Linga Raju is exiled for marrying twice. Meanwhile, Devudu’s innocence wins the affection of Shanti, the secret daughter of the scheming MLA Sarweswara Rao, who has long manipulated politics with Rayudu’s support. In a clever ploy to secure re-election, Sarweswara Rao uses Shanti as collateral under Rayudu’s guardianship. But when his deceit is exposed, the village seeks to punish Shanti—forcing Devudu to flee with her to the city.
There, Shanti compels Devudu to tie a mangalasutram around her neck in defiance of her father’s schemes, though Devudu naïvely mistakes it for a holy charm. Soon after, the truth emerges: Madhavi, the girl Devudu once saved from goons, is none other than Sarweswara Rao’s legitimate daughter. Shocked by her father’s corruption, Madhavi stands by Shanti and Devudu.
Sarweswara Rao, now aspiring to become Chief Minister, conspires to marry Madhavi into another political dynasty. Devudu, with his simple yet unyielding resolve, thwarts him by tying the wedding chain to Madhavi as well, unwittingly binding himself to two women. This sparks an uproar, but when Ganga Raju accuses him before the village Panchayat, the people rally behind Devudu, recognizing his purity of heart.
In the gripping climax, Sarweswara Rao launches a violent assault, abducting Rayudu and Madhavi. Devudu, guided by a divine vision of the Goddess, rises to protect them, confronting and defeating the villains. Tragedy strikes when Shanti, in her final act of love, sacrifices her life to save Devudu, ensuring his union with Madhavi.
