Dongata Story
The film begins in a village where Subbalakshmi, an innocent young woman, adores her cousin Prakash Rao. Her father raises her with the hope of marrying her to him. Prakash Rao leaves for the city for higher studies but never returns, leaving Subbalakshmi heartbroken. Determined, she lies to her father about going on a tour and sets out to find him. On her train journey, she encounters Raju, a thief who hides a stolen diamond necklace in her bag to evade the police led by ACP Vikram. Raju follows her closely to retrieve the bag, and along the way, rescues her from various dangers while helping her search for Prakash Rao. Over time, Raju silently develops feelings for Subbalakshmi, though he remains quiet knowing she loves her cousin. When Subbalakshmi finally finds Prakash Rao, she is shattered to see him romantically involved with Lavanya, a wealthy tycoon. A manipulative Prakash Rao convinces her otherwise and sends her away, but Raju stays by her side.
During their journey, Subbalakshmi meets Prakash Rao’s friend Prasad, who reveals his friend’s selfish, deceitful nature. Devastated, she attempts suicide but is saved by Raju, who promises to expose Prakash Rao. In Jaipur, Raju transforms Subbalakshmi into a modern woman, and together they befriend Lavanya, unnerving Prakash Rao. Meanwhile, Raju discovers the hidden necklace, realizing Subbalakshmi had it all along to keep him close. Prakash Rao grows jealous, slanders Subbalakshmi’s character, and tries to kill her, but ACP Vikram intervenes. Subbalakshmi hands over the necklace, finally admitting her love for Raju, though hesitantly. Lavanya rejects Prakash Rao after uncovering his true nature, leaving him furious. When he tries once again to con Subbalakshmi, she firmly rejects him and returns to her village. In the climax, ACP Vikram tells Raju about Subbalakshmi’s true feelings. Raju rushes to the railway station, confesses his love, and the film ends happily with their union.
