Appa Rao Driving School
The film begins with Appa Rao, a noble and honest young man who runs a ladies-only driving school and is admired for his integrity. His school faces competition from Ariff Khan, a bankrupt rival who has an institution opposite Rao’s, fueling a long-standing family rivalry over a land dispute that plays out comically in court. Appa Rao lives with his grandmother, who constantly urges him to marry, but he keeps postponing. Meanwhile, Anjali, the cherished daughter of powerful factionist Veera Raghava Reddy, claims that all men are perverts. Her friends wager that Appa Rao is the exception, and to prove them wrong, she joins his school. Anjali tries various ways to entice him, but he resists, earning her admiration and love. Parallelly, Ramu, a mechanic nearby, lusts after Anjali but is beaten back by her bullies. Soon, Rao’s grandmother arranges his marriage to the innocent Mahalakshmi, just as Anjali declares her love for him. Shockingly, Veera Raghava Reddy reveals that Anjali is terminally ill with cancer and pleads with Appa Rao to pretend love to make her final days happy. Rao reluctantly agrees and begins juggling a double life—husband to Mahalakshmi while feigning devotion to Anjali.
However, a medical mix-up later reveals Anjali is not sick, leaving Rao trapped in a web of lies. He plots with Veera Raghava Reddy to distance himself, but his schemes fail as Mahalakshmi and Anjali become close friends. Chaos intensifies when Rao discovers his PA Geeta’s corpse in the school. Panicked, he calls Veera Raghava Reddy, who instructs him to bury the body, but soon Rao begins receiving threatening calls. To his shock, Geeta later reappears alive, and Ramu is found to be behind the ruse—using Geeta, his lover, to exact revenge on Rao and Anjali while plotting to kill Anjali for rejecting him. In the climax, Rao fakes his death to break Anjali’s attachment, but Mahalakshmi uncovers the truth and, with Reddy’s guidance, realizes his virtue. Tragically, it is revealed that Anjali truly does have cancer, and she hides the truth from her father, who is also terminally ill, to spare him grief. In her final moments, Appa Rao comforts Anjali with genuine love, while Mahalakshmi wholeheartedly accepts her as part of their lives. The film ends poignantly with Anjali passing away peacefully in Appa Rao’s lap.
