Bandhuvulostunnaru Jagratha Story
The film begins in Madras, where Chittibabu, an orphan working at a bank, constantly yearns for family and relatives. To fill the void, he spends time and money on friends who exploit his generosity. Cleverly, he even tricks his strict manager, Yeddirajula Naidu, to grant him leave. During one such break, Chittibabu attends the wedding of his true friend Sudhakar’s sister, where he meets and falls in love with Satya, daughter of Subba Rao and Annapurna. Subba Rao is a kind-hearted man known for his charity and readiness to help relatives, but he has been ruthlessly exploited by them—especially Sundaramma and her son Kisthaiah with his wife Lakshmi, Surayya and his daughter, and the Peddakondaiah couple, all of whom survive by draining others in the name of kinship. Soon, Chittibabu and Satya’s love blossoms, and with the elders’ approval they marry. His life transforms into joy and fulfillment. On the eve of a festival, Subba Rao and Annapurna plan to move their daughter to Chittibabu’s home, hoping to escape the burden of greedy relatives. Unfortunately, their plan backfires as the freeloaders descend upon Chittibabu’s household, including the cheerful Bandhu Murthy, whose only aim is to record genealogies. Chittibabu, overjoyed to finally have “family,” ignores Sudhakar’s warnings and spends all he has to host them.
Day by day, chaos takes over. The selfish relatives exploit him, invent fake connections to Yeddirajula Naidu, and cause him humiliation. Frustrated, Chittibabu confronts Subba Rao, who admits his helplessness in order to preserve family honor. Determined to teach them a lesson, Chittibabu devises clever tricks with Satya, Sudhakar, and Bandhu Murthy’s support. He sows rifts among the freeloaders, compels them to gift costly presents, and even fabricates a mythical hidden treasure, promising it to whichever relative serves the elders with true devotion until the festival ends. The greedy relatives pretend affection, showering false respect in hopes of winning the prize. At the climax, Chittibabu reveals his ruse, and the relatives prepare to leave in anger. Just then, his secret about misusing bank funds for the upkeep of guests is exposed, but ironically the greedy relatives cut ties with him, unintentionally saving him from punishment. Finally, consumed by regret, they beg forgiveness. Chittibabu uses the moment to remind them of the true value of relationships. The film ends comically with the relatives joining to celebrate the festival in good spirit, while Chittibabu happily welcomes the dawn of genuine kinship and bids farewell to his painful past.
