Bharya Bhartala Bhagotham Story
The film begins with two inseparable friends, Dr. Ganapati and Advocate Bhagothula Subramanyam (Basu). Ganapati loves Arundhati, but her orthodox zamindar grandfather, Brahmanandam, opposes their match. With Basu’s clever intervention, the wedding is conducted against the grandfather’s wishes. Meanwhile, Basu marries his own love interest, Sita. The two friends treat each other’s wives as sisters, living in harmony. Trouble begins when Basu notices Ganapati taking to alcohol and presses him for the reason. Ganapati confesses his suspicion that Arundhati is being unfaithful. Angered by the insult to his friend, Basu begins keeping a close watch on Arundhati. During this period, Basu meets with a car accident, injuring a taxi driver named Babji, who entrusts Basu to care for his young daughter until his recovery. Shockingly, Basu finds a bridal photograph of Babji with Sita, and suspicion takes root in his mind. Sita’s tenderness toward the child and her secret meetings with Babji only fuel his doubts. Misunderstandings escalate between the couples, leading to bitter quarrels and near-separation.
After his recovery, Babji is caught in a smuggling case while attempting to raise money for a mysterious purpose. In a dramatic revelation, he tells Basu that he is his co-brother—Arundhati is his sister. Babji had, in fact, married Sita’s twin sister Radha, whom Brahmanandam disowned. Radha later died giving birth to their child, leaving Babji alone with his daughter. Some time afterward, Babji found Arundhati unconscious on the road and learned she was suffering from cancer. To spare Ganapati the shock, Babji and Sita concealed the truth, leading to Ganapati’s suspicions. Babji’s smuggling was only to fund Arundhati’s surgery. Once Basu uncovers the truth, he reveals it to Ganapati, and both men repent, begging forgiveness from their wives. Arundhati recovers successfully after her operation, and the film ends on a joyful note with harmony restored in both families.
