Movie Stories
Car Diddina Kapuram
The film begins with a humorous couple—Engineer Raghava Rao and his wife Indumathi—who have three daughters: Hema Sundari, Rupa Sundari, and Suguna Sundari. The first two are married to Manmadha Rao and Subba Rao, with the condition that the family property will be equally divided after Raghava Rao’s passing. Manmadha Rao is a reprobate who mistreats his wife, has an affair with his stenographer Lilly, and eagerly awaits his father-in-law’s death. Subba Rao is a simpleton, controlled by his domineering mother Durgamma, who constantly nags the couple. The youngest, Suguna Sundari, is an independent working woman who rejects dowry culture, leading to multiple broken marriage proposals and distressing her parents. Meanwhile, their envious neighbors, Pulla Rao and Pullamma, often plot against the family. Raghava Rao, whose lifelong dream is to own a car, finally buys a remodeled foreign vehicle damaged in an accident, financed by a loan from Seth Kishanlal. Shockingly, he discovers the car is possessed by the aura of its deceased owner, Ram Swamy, who agrees to remain until his last wish is fulfilled.
One day, Suguna notices a newspaper advertisement by a noble Christian youth, Satya Keerti David, which inspires her. David cleverly wins her parents’ trust and Suguna’s affection. They agree that he will become a house-husband while she continues to work, but when their plan collapses, Raghava Rao expels David. Defying her family, Suguna marries him. Meanwhile, Pulla Rao and Pullamma escalate their schemes, provoking Seth Kishanlal to auction the car. The car then passes through several hands—Manmadha Rao, Durgamma, and eventually Pulla Rao’s family—all of whom face comical retribution from Ram Swamy’s spirit, which reforms them through self-realization. David gains admiration from women for his role as an ideal husband, sparking jealousy among other men, who try to attack him, only to be thwarted by the car. In time, Ram Swamy shapes Raghava Rao into a better man and unites the family. At last, Raghava Rao and Indumathi meet Ram Swamy’s destitute wife and children and embrace them as part of their family. The story concludes joyfully, with Ram Swamy’s soul finally satisfied and merging into the universe.
