Gopala Rao Gari Abbayi Story
The film unfolds against the backdrop of a movie set. Gopal Rao, a renowned filmmaker, is constantly pestered by a persistent writer, whom he dismisses each time. One day, the writer arrives with a threatening resolve, forcing Gopal Rao to acknowledge and finally adopt his script. Searching for a new hero, the writer notices Gopal Rao’s son Raghu and suggests launching him as the lead. The film’s journey begins with Raghu as the star. Meanwhile, the writer lives in a slum where he discovers Sita, a talented theater artist, and casts her as the heroine. Sita lives with her brother Balaji, both raised by their hardworking maternal uncle Ranga, a rickshaw puller. Ranga has secretly loved Sita since childhood, wishing to marry her, though she only regards him with affection. Adding a lighter note, Ganga, a liquor shop owner, openly adores Ranga, though he constantly mocks her. At first, Ranga resists Sita’s entry into cinema but reluctantly agrees under strict conditions. However, Balaji, driven by greed, schemes to exploit Sita’s success for personal gain.
On set, Gopal Rao pushes for authenticity in love scenes, which gradually sparks real feelings between Raghu and Sita. Overcome by fear of societal barriers, Raghu impulsively marries Sita during the filming of a wedding scene, making it real. Gopal Rao, however, scolds him, belittling the marriage as useless and accusing Raghu of lacking his own identity. When Ranga learns of their relationship, he tries to forcefully marry Sita but relents upon seeing the mangalasutram on her neck, accepting the reality with heartbreak. Comforted by Ganga, he eventually reciprocates her love. Meanwhile, Gopal Rao faces financial ruin, staking everything on the film. Raghu retaliates against his father by refusing to act without proper pay, further straining matters. Balaji secretly profits from Sita’s work, squandering money, while Sita herself refuses new offers, standing by her marriage to Raghu. Enraged, Balaji plots Raghu’s murder with a bomb hidden in the climax scene. Ranga and Sita intervene just in time, saving him and confronting the threat together. In the end, Gopal Rao realizes their true love and worth, finally accepting their union. The film concludes joyfully with Gopal Rao himself grandly conducting Raghu and Sita’s wedding.
