Idem Pellam Baboi Story
The film opens with Shobha Devi, a domineering egotist who relentlessly henpecks her husband, Dasaratharamaiah. The couple’s elder son, Sridhar, marries Aruna, the daughter of wealthy Raja Shekaram. However, soon after the wedding, Shobha Devi mistreats her daughter-in-law and even banishes her from the household for six months when Aruna advises her father-in-law to stand up for himself. Meanwhile, Aruna’s spirited sister, Jhansi, returns home, learns of the humiliation, and decides to set things right. At the same time, Shobha Devi’s younger son, Kalyan Chakravarthy, a carefree and mischievous youth, plans to marry a naïve village girl so he can mold her to his whims. Sensing an opportunity, Jhansi disguises herself as Rajamma, the long-lost daughter of a villager named Hanumanthu, and follows Kalyan to his ancestral village. Captivated by her eccentric behavior, Kalyan mistakes her for the kind of “nutty girl” he always dreamed of.
Hanumanthu, however, fixes Rajamma’s marriage with his nephew Bullibabu, which Jhansi cleverly derails with the help of a quirky local saint, Chi Chi Swamy, whose blessings hilariously work in reverse. Kalyan then marries Rajamma, but once she enters the household, she flips the script—pestering Shobha Devi with exaggerated chores, calling in Chi Chi Swamy to ridicule her, and tormenting Kalyan by refusing intimacy, calling it sinful. Kalyan’s attempts to modernize her, consult doctors, or even force himself end in comic failure. Meanwhile, Shobha Devi realizes Aruna’s worth, restores her place in the family, and hands her control of the household. She even sends Sridhar and Aruna on a honeymoon, finally humbled. Frustrated by Rajamma’s antics, Kalyan seeks a divorce, but Jhansi outwits everyone, exposing Bullibabu’s schemes when he attacks. Pushed to his limits, Kalyan angrily tries to expel Rajamma, when she finally reveals her true identity. Realizing Jhansi’s clever plan to reform both himself and his mother, Kalyan embraces her. The film ends on a joyful note with Kalyan and Jhansi united in love and laughter.
