Jeevana Jyothi Story
The film begins with an ideal wealthy couple, Sridhar and Kalyani, who have enjoyed twelve years of married life but remain troubled by childlessness. Their loyal servant Akbar, raised under Kalyani’s care, adores her with deep affection, treating her as a mother figure. Meanwhile, Akbar falls in love with Noorjahan, but her father, Nawab Abdulla Ali Khan, disapproves. With tact and persistence, Akbar wins his consent, and Kalyani blesses their union. Just as joy seems within reach, Kalyani miraculously conceives, but a tragic miscarriage—caused inadvertently by Akbar—leads to the removal of her uterus, leaving her unable to bear children. Devastated, Kalyani withdraws into grief, while Akbar, feeling responsible, renounces his marriage in penance. Yet Kalyani persuades him to marry Noorjahan, ensuring his happiness. To secure an heir for Sridhar, Kalyani compels her husband to remarry despite his reluctance, arranging his union with his secretary, Nirmala. Initially, Sridhar rejects Nirmala, but Kalyani helps him recognize her worth. Soon, Nirmala gives birth to a baby girl, Latha, whom Kalyani cherishes as the center of her world.
Peace is shattered when Nirmala’s shrewd mother, Durgamma, arrives and poisons her daughter’s mind. Resentful of Latha’s attachment to Kalyani, she stirs tension, forcing Kalyani to leave. Sridhar, heartbroken, collapses into despair, but Akbar and Noorjahan pledge lifelong devotion to her and accompany her into a quiet, spiritual life away from the family. Years pass, and Latha grows up. As her wedding approaches, fate intervenes—Kalyani, now terminally ill, learns of the marriage and rushes to attend. Meanwhile, Sridhar faces bankruptcy, jeopardizing the alliance due to dowry demands. In a final act of sacrifice, Kalyani offers her diamond wedding chain, the sacred mangalasutram once given by Sridhar, to fulfill the wedding expenses. The film ends poignantly with Kalyani breathing her last in Sridhar’s arms, while Akbar, her faithful companion to the end, performs her last rites.
