Dr. Pratap, an officer in the Indian Army, lives happily with his wife Janaki and their baby girl, Sujatha. During a fierce battle, he is gravely injured and, before dying, confesses to Janaki about his past relationship with a nurse, Lakshmi, with whom he has another child. He makes Janaki promise to protect them. She travels to their village only to find Lakshmi dead, and entrusts the child to Lakshmi’s neighbors, Veera Swamy and his wife Parvati, giving them ₹1 lakh for the child’s upbringing. Sometime later, troubled with regret, Janaki returns with her father Visweswara Rao to reclaim the child, but by then Veera Swamy has absconded. Years pass, and Veera Swamy abandons Lakshmi’s child, leaving him orphaned. Vijay, Veera Swamy’s nephew, grows up alongside his cousin Swapna. Honest and upright, Vijay becomes a journalist, while Swapna despises her uncle’s corrupt ways and eventually leaves the household. Meanwhile, Sujatha, Dr. Pratap’s daughter, admires Vijay’s ideals and falls in love with him.
Swapna, however, pretends to be a millionaire’s daughter out of false pride. This deception entangles her with Raja, a loafer and Veera Swamy’s accomplice, who seduces her, leading to her pregnancy. When Veera Swamy discovers Sujatha’s engagement to Vijay, he schemes to stop it by framing Vijay and pushing him toward Swapna instead. Janaki, recognizing Veera Swamy, demands her late husband’s child back. Veera Swamy then introduces Raja as the supposed heir to claim the property. Swapna realizes the truth, but Veera Swamy manipulates her into agreeing to the marriage scheme. Raja enters the household, but Sujatha grows suspicious. With Vijay’s help, she tracks down Raja’s real father, Simhachalam, and exposes the fraud. In a twist, it is revealed that Raja is indeed the same child Veera Swamy once fostered to Simhachalam before fleeing the village. The story ends on a happy note, with Vijay marrying Sujatha and Raja marrying Swapna.
