Ladies Tailor

The film begins in a village where Sundaram, a proficient ladies’ tailor, is a slacker and a strong believer in a fluke that he thinks will make him affluent. He turns a deaf ear to his acolyte Sitaramudu and friend Battala Satyam, a cloth vendor, who urge him to work. One day, a Koyadora predicts that Sundaram will gain kingship by marrying a lady with a mole on her right thigh. Sundaram shares this with his friends, but they fear the wrath of the chieftain Venkata Ratnam, who punishes any misconduct toward women. Since he is already under penalty, they decide to act before the chieftain’s arrival by keeping watch on his confidant, Seenu. Sundaram begins his search by stitching a blouse for Venkataratnam’s unstable sister Sundari, who wanders about. He flirts with three girls—Nagamani, Neelaveni, and Daiya—swearing to marry them, while constantly trying to uncover the “lady luck.” Seenu, however, becomes suspicious of his actions. Lacking time, Sundaram chases the mystery, only to fail with the trio. Just as he plans to flee, he fortuitously spots the mole on a newly appointed schoolteacher, Sujatha. Meanwhile, Venkata Ratnam spares Sundaram’s friends after being bribed to control Seenu.

Sundaram resumes his pursuit of Sujatha but soon develops true love for her, and she reciprocates. However, the three girls attempt to trap him by fixing alliances with him. Meanwhile, Sujatha is preparing to leave for training, and Sundaram promises to accompany her. At this point, Sundari becomes pregnant, and everyone accuses Sundaram. Villagers and the trio surround him, and Venkata Ratnam nearly kills him. At the climax, Sujatha reveals the actual culprit to be Sitaramudu. Venkata Ratnam then turns his fury toward him, but Sujatha calms him down. She also rebukes Sundaram for his foolishness and betrayal of women. Overcome with remorse, Sundaram pleads for forgiveness and decides to quit his reckless ways. At last, Sujatha stops him, and they marry. The movie ends comically, with Sundaram realizing that the girl with the mole was actually Sundari.
