Pelli Chesi Choodu Story
The film begins with Mohan, a courageous young man who boldly denounces the dowry system. He lives with his mother, Janakamma, and his siblings, Raja and Sita. While Mohan opposes dowry, Janakamma is obsessed with securing a wealthy match for Sita, which sparks daily quarrels. Mohan vows to marry only for love. He soon meets Uma, recalling how he once ruined her earlier marriage proposal by demanding dowry through a friend. Out of guilt, he approaches her with a proposal, which she initially rejects. But recognizing his sincerity, Uma marries him. Furious, Janakamma disowns their union. Mohan then challenges her to marry Sita within a month without dowry—but fails. Meanwhile, Janakamma fixes Sita’s alliance with an unsuitable older man. To save her, Mohan arranges her marriage with Ravi, son of the greedy Parameswara Rao and Savitri, agreeing to a dowry of ₹1 lakh.
During the wedding, Parameswara Rao refuses to pay, accusing Raja of theft, and storms out with his wife. Determined, Mohan drops Sita at her in-laws’ house, pretending that she and Ravi were lovers in their student days, thus forcing their acceptance. Ravi and Sita begin married life in secret despite torment from his parents, and soon Sita conceives. Enraged, Parameswara Rao plots to kill her in an “accident,” but Savitri becomes the unintended victim. He then frames Sita for the crime. Outraged, Mohan storms in, thrashes Parameswara Rao, and throws the dowry money in his face. Ravi severs ties with his father and leaves. Shocked by his son’s rejection, Parameswara Rao reforms, begs forgiveness, and repays the dowry. In the end, Sita gives birth to a healthy baby boy. The film closes on a moral note with a pledge: “Do not partake in Dowry Practice.”
