Punyasthree Story
The film begins with Babu Rao, a humble temple security guard, and his wife Parvati, a simple-hearted couple who live happily despite their poverty. They cherish their children—Lakshmi, a devout and affectionate daughter, and Balu, a mischievous son. Lakshmi dreams of marrying a good man and living a virtuous life. A marriage proposal comes from Bhaskar, a well-paid engineer at the Vizag Steel Plant. To Babu Rao’s surprise, Bhaskar lives with a Christian family—Peter and Stella—whom he calls his siblings. Bhaskar explains that after losing his parents, Peter’s mother raised him alongside her children, and they live together without any barriers of religion. When Parvati questions his specific interest in Lakshmi, Bhaskar reveals that he had already encountered and admired her in the past, which inspired his proposal. Their marriage takes place, and Bhaskar and Lakshmi enjoy a blissful life. Their two families unite as one, and joy multiplies when Lakshmi conceives.
Tragedy strikes when Bhaskar, during a routine check-up, is diagnosed with terminal brain cancer by family doctor Sriram Murthy. The doctor shares the devastating news with Peter, who secretly begins Bhaskar’s treatment. Eventually, Bhaskar discovers the truth, and though heartbroken, he accepts his fate and entrusts Lakshmi’s future to Peter. He writes a letter for Lakshmi to be read after his death, expressing his sorrow and love. During Lakshmi’s baby shower at her parents’ home, Dr. Sriram Murthy learns of a new treatment developed by Dr. Ram Prasad in the USA, but it requires Bhaskar to still have vision. Sadly, Bhaskar loses his eyesight just as hope arrives. Meanwhile, Lakshmi discovers his condition through the letter, and in despair, she consumes poison. In a heartbreaking climax, she dies in Bhaskar’s lap, and unable to live without her, Bhaskar soon follows. The film closes on a poignant note, portraying their love as eternal and immortal.
