Thodallullu Story

The film begins in a middle-class compound where three families reside: Bhaskar, a bus conductor; Narasimham, a typist; and Dharma Rao, an accountant. Narasimham has three daughters—Lakshmi, Uma, and Aruna. Lakshmi is married to Mohan, a lazy gambler who leeches off the family and demands money for his extravagances. Uma’s marriage prospects are blocked by dowry demands, while Aruna, a vain dreamer, aspires to marry a wealthy man. Exploiting her weakness, Ramesh, a cunning driver, deceives her by posing as a rich tycoon. Meanwhile, Dharma Rao is honest, but his wife Varalakshmi is obsessed with showy living. Bhaskar, kind-hearted and helpful, feels close to his neighbors and secretly loves Aruna, though she scorns him. When Narasimham and Uma attempt suicide after repeated marriage rejections, Bhaskar saves them. Later, he arranges Aruna’s match with LIC agent Sudhakar, who truly loves her. At the same time, Dharma Rao falls into a financial crisis and accepts a bribe, which leads to tragedy when his daughter Rani dies in the fallout. Bhaskar helps him regain his job, prompting Varalakshmi to change her ways, and the family moves away.

Meanwhile, Mohan faces punishment for perjury in court but reforms with Bhaskar’s guidance. Aware of Bhaskar’s love for Aruna, everyone urges her to marry him, but she rejects him, mocking his lowly status. Soon, Bhaskar uncovers Ramesh’s trap around Aruna. With the help of Mohan and Sudhakar, he exposes and defeats Ramesh, protecting her. Realizing Bhaskar’s true worth, Aruna repents. Finally, the movie ends on a happy note with the marriage of Bhaskar and Aruna.
