Missamma

The film begins at Appapuram, where Zamindar Gopalam has founded a school in memory of his missing elder daughter, Mahalakshmi. The condition of the school deteriorates due to the mismanagement of his nephew, AK Raju, an amateur detective. Ergo, Gopalam decides to hire a new teacher who is a couple also to civilize his younger, naughty daughter Sita. Parallelly, Raju oaths to detect the whereabouts of Mahalakshmi. He learns that she wears a locket on her neck and has a birthmark on her correct prominent figure. In Madras, Mahalakshmi is reared & well-read by a Christian couple, Mr. & Mrs. Paul, as Mary, who is indebted to a loan shark, I.P. David. Now, she perturbs her to knit him. M.T. Rao is an unemployed youth and homeschooling colleague of Mary. He befriends the beggar Devaiah in a park where he lives. He comes across Gopalam’s advertisement and plans with Mary to qualify for the jobs as a couple. Although Mary hesitates initially, she only agrees once she has paid David’s debt. They proceed to Appapuram with Devaiah, where Mary chokes on the excessive affection & Hindu customs of Gopalam & his wife Ammi. She vents her frustration to Rao, who bears it patiently.

Meanwhile, Raju suspects Mary is Mahalakshmi and starts chasing the mole, which repeatedly backfires. Moreover, Mary is annoyed by Sita’s unneeded closeness to Rao as she likes him. In desperation, Mary unveils the drama when Rao fabricates a ghost story. Here, Mary warns them to quit, and then Gopalam threatens to set Sita up with Rao, irking Raju with his affection for Sita. Mary pays off David’s debts with Rao’s aid in the first month. Sly David steals Mary’s addresses with her childhood locket and moves to Appapuram. After a few comic scenes that send Mary into a rage, Sita forces Rao to take music lessons, and she decides to quit. Things get out of control here, as Gopalam & Ammi assume Mary is pregnant and perform a ceremony. The night before, Rao feigns a fracture to delay her departure. The following day, David arrives and reveals Rao & Mary’s game to Raju when he notices Mahalakshmi’s locket. To clear the air, everyone goes to Rao’s quarters, where Raju tactically unravels the hoax by exposing Mary’s birthmark. However, Mary is not ready to accept it when Mr. & Mrs. Paul arrives and divulge the truth. At last, Raju handovers David to the Police. Finally, the movie ends happily with the marriages of Rao & Mary / Mahalakshmi and Raju & Sita.
