Muvva Gopaludu Story
The film begins in a village where Gopi, a wealthy and spirited young man, suffers under the tyranny of his cruel brother-in-law, Basava Raju, while his sister Nagalakshmi shows him kindness. Into this setting arrives Nirmala, a young medico raised by a Christian missionary, who has secretly aspired to become a nun. At the request of her Mother Superior, she accepts a posting in Gopi’s village, where she also meets the benevolent Father Lawrence, admired by the locals. Gopi and Nirmala first clash in a quarrel but soon develop a close bond. When Basava Raju’s torment drives Gopi to attempt suicide, Nirmala rescues him, and he confesses his love. Torn between faith and emotion, Nirmala seeks guidance, and Father Lawrence assures her that love is not sinful and encourages her to marry Gopi. Basava Raju pretends to approve but secretly schemes to marry Gopi to his own daughter, Krishnaveni, for wealth. During Krishnaveni’s fake puberty ceremony, he tricks Gopi into placing a mangalsutram on her, declaring them husband and wife.
When Nirmala returns with her fellow revivalists, she is devastated by the situation but stays on at the villagers’ plea. Grief-stricken, Gopi drowns in alcohol until Krishnaveni, moved by his suffering, exposes her father’s treachery with Father Lawrence’s help. The Panchayat annuls the forced marriage, clearing the way for Gopi and Nirmala to wed. On the day of their marriage, Basava Raju storms the ceremony, murders Father Lawrence, and attempts to kill Nirmala. She takes refuge in the church, leaving the villagers shocked. Enraged, Gopi kills Basava Raju at Nagalakshmi’s urging and is sentenced to seven years in prison. Upon his release, he is welcomed back by Krishnaveni. In the final twist, Nirmala renounces worldly life and becomes a nun, uniting Gopi with Krishnaveni. The movie ends on a bittersweet yet happy note, with love and sacrifice bringing peace to the village.
