Preminchu Pelladu Story

The film begins with an orthodox Brahmin Kurmavataram who greatly emphasizes traditions, customs, and beliefs. He has four progeny: Urmila, Subhadra, Rukmini, and Raghava Rao. He ostracizes Rukmini for knitting a Christian Lawrence, declaring her dead. After twenty years, Kurmavataram periodically comes back from the brink of death. Hence, a nurse, Radha, is appointed as his 24/7 caretaker who sets foot in his home. Rambabu, Kurmavataram’s grandson, whose lifelong dream is to conduct a romantic marriage, falls for Radha but pauses since his grandfather’s word is law. So, Kurmavataram finalizes his grandson’s match with Saraswati, the daughter of his distant relative Hanumantha Rao, at Rajamandry. Rambabu, loyal to tradition, attempts to win over Saraswati, but fails. Indeed, Saraswati has a crush on a jolly guy named Babji, but sly Hanumantha Rao suppresses it as a plot to secure wealth through Rambabu. Meanwhile, Kurmavataram arrives along with Radha when Rambabu’s romance with her flourishes again. After comic trials, Rambabu triumphs in gaining her love. Startlingly, Radha unveils herself as the daughter of Rambabu’s aunt Rukmini, revealing the past. Rambabu vows to help her reform their grandfather.

Kurmavataram, sensing his end, still stands firm in his beliefs. Accordingly, Rambabu and Radha attempt to mock and challenge him in various ways. Radha questions whether his progeny are truly following his footsteps, to which he strongly proclaims “Yes.” To verify, Kurmavataram visits his daughters with Rambabu and Radha. Firstly, they reach Urmila, where Kurmavataram witnesses a modernistic family relinquishing his principles. Next, they visit Subhadra, where the family pretends to follow his traditions but soon breaks down. Devastated, Kurmavataram quits, and Radha guides him back home. On the way, he is enthralled to find Rukmini, who is upholding the values he once taught. At last, Kurmavataram comprehends, after soul-searching, that “love is the greatest piety in the world.” The movie ends happily with the marriages of Rambabu & Radha, and Babji & Saraswati.
