Varakatnam Story

In two neighboring villages, Meesala Venkaiah and Bhadraiah are influential headmen. Venkaiah’s son, Devasimha (N. T. Rama Rao), is set to marry Sujatha (Krishna Kumari), the daughter of Bhadraiah. However, Venkaiah demands a dowry of Rs. 50,000, leading to the cancellation of the wedding. Undeterred, Devasimha secretly marries Sujatha, challenging his father’s oppressive views.

Meanwhile, in a parallel narrative, Lakshmi (Chandrakala), the daughter-in-law of Chukkamma (Suryakantham), faces exploitation and mistreatment due to her family’s inability to meet dowry demands. As both families confront the consequences of their actions, the film delivers a powerful message against the dowry system, highlighting the importance of love and respect over materialistic traditions.
