Aatma Gowravam Story
The film begins with a wealthy couple, Zamindar Varahala Rao and his shrewish wife, Santana Lakshmi, who are troubled as they remain childless. Once, while visiting their village, the Zamindar grows affectionate toward his peasant Ramaiah’s younger son, Srinivasa Rao (Vasu), and decides to adopt him. Ramaiah’s mother, Shanthamma, expresses her wish to see Vasu married to his niece, Savitri, and the Zamindar promises to fulfill it. Though Santana Lakshmi reluctantly accepts the adoption, the Zamindar makes it official. Soon after, she severs Vasu’s ties to his family by sending him to boarding school along with her sister’s son, Venu. Years later, Vasu and Venu enter college, where they meet Varahala Rao’s close friend, Bhaja Govindam, and his daughter Geeta. Geeta falls for Vasu, and though he does not reciprocate, the elders arrange their marriage. Meanwhile, Savitri’s love for Vasu deepens. Around this time, Ramaiah’s wife Janaki dies from a miscarriage, which Santana Lakshmi hides from Vasu, further straining Ramaiah. Later, when Ramaiah approaches the Zamindar for Vasu and Savitri’s marriage, he is humiliated. Enraged, Ramaiah arranges Savitri’s marriage to a prosperous suitor who demands she wed his insane sister, Parvati, as a condition. Before the wedding, Savitri prepares for self-sacrifice, but Ramaiah, valuing virtue, marries Parvati instead.
Aware of the suffering, Vasu rushes to Ramaiah, who initially blames him but later reconciles upon learning the truth. Meanwhile, Geeta rescues and shelters Savitri, and destiny brings her closer to Vasu, leading to secret love between them. When Geeta discovers Savitri’s feelings, Savitri reveals her true story. Moved, Geeta unites them by revealing Savitri’s sacrifice and identity. At last, Vasu, Savitri, Geeta, and Venu cleverly make the elders realize their mistakes. Finally, the movie ends happily with the marriage of Vasu and Savitri.
