Anarkali Story
Anarkali tells the legendary love story of Prince Salim (played by Akkineni Nageswara Rao) and Anarkali, a beautiful court dancer. When Salim returns from the battlefield, he falls deeply in love with Anarkali, enchanted by her grace and innocence. Their romance blossoms in secrecy, but soon Emperor Akbar discovers it. For Akbar, a devadasi like Anarkali could never be worthy of a Mughal prince who is heir to the throne. He sees their love as a threat to the empire’s honor and stability.
Akbar forbids the relationship and tries to separate them, but Salim openly defies his father and stands by Anarkali, even raising arms against the empire. The rebellion fails, and Salim is captured. Anarkali sacrifices herself to save him, pleading for his life. Moved by her love and loyalty, Akbar pardons his son but condemns Anarkali to death. She is entombed alive, becoming a tragic symbol of eternal love. The film remains a classic for its poignant story, rich music, and ANR’s powerful portrayal of the lovelorn prince.
