Bhakta Jayadeva Story
The film begins with Jayadeva, a librettist and orphan, brought up by a couple with their son Parasera. Jayadeva writes poems about the sacred love of Radha and Krishna, which are disdained. So, he quits in search of acclaim for his literature and arrives at Saint Krishnanda’s Ashram, a devoted follower of Radha Krishna. Krishnanda senses that Jayadeva is destined to fulfill the philosophy of Radha Krishna and accommodates him. Once, Jayadeva spots the public forcibly transforming a naive Padmavati into a Devadasi. To stop it, he marries her, which irks the lustful chieftain Kamakeetu. Parasera takes them to their hometown, and on the way, Jayadeva acquires a statue of Radha Krishna floating in a river. Meanwhile, Kamakeetu comes to Jayadeva’s village and slanders Padmavati, leading to their ostracization. Then, Krishna himself affirms Jayadeva’s faith to the community. Jayadeva later composes Geeta Govindam, which fascinates everyone. Eventually, the king of Puri also writes poems on Jagannath but, upon seeing the adulation for Jayadeva, summons him to court. Both present their poetry before the Lord, and Jayadeva is endorsed as the king bows his head in reverence. On his return, Jayadeva is backstabbed by Kamakeetu but saved by Lakshmanasena Maharaja, the king of Navadweepa.
Being a devout follower of Radha Krishna, Lakshmanasena invites Jayadeva to his court, which sparks envy among the other poets. Kamakeetu too enters the court, further infuriating them. However, Jayadeva triumphs over the scholars and is highly acclaimed. Meanwhile, as Jayadeva is about to complete Geeta Govindam, Krishna himself appears in his form, finishes the work, and accepts Padmavati’s hospitality. Witnessing this miracle, the couple is overjoyed. When Lakshmanasena visits, they humbly serve him the deity’s leftovers. The queen, feeling slighted, argues with Padmavati about Sati. Padmavati declares that a true wife should spontaneously die with her husband. At that moment, the queen falsely announces Jayadeva’s death, and Padmavati immediately sacrifices her life. At last, Jayadeva, with his holy power, restores Padmavati, and the movie ends happily with the couple attaining salvation in Radha Krishna.
