Dr. Chakravarthy Story
The film begins with Dr. Chakravarthy returning from abroad after completing his higher education. He receives a warm welcome from his friends and his beloved, Dr. Sridevi. Chakravarthy then visits his precious sister Sudha, whom he adores and has raised with immense love. Sudha is a talented musician, writer, and poet. Chakravarthy’s rise in status is supported by Sudha’s wealthy husband, Shekar. Along the way, Chakravarthy is delighted to reconnect with his childhood friend, Engineer Ravindra. On reaching home, however, he is heartbroken to find Sudha terminally ill with cancer. During this crisis, he calls Sridevi for support. Unaware of their love affair, Sudha requests her brother to marry Sridhar’s sister, Nirmala, before her death. Out of respect for Sudha’s last wish, and with Sridevi’s consent, Chakravarthy marries Nirmala. In Sudha’s memory, he establishes a hospital. However, Chakravarthy and Nirmala have contrasting lifestyles; her carefree nature creates a lack of compatibility, leaving him lonely. Once, during a visit to Ravindra, Chakravarthy meets his ideal wife Madhavi, whose qualities—politeness, love for music, and poetry—remind him of Sudha. Though Madhavi is initially uncomfortable with his attention, she eventually understands his brotherly affection and accepts it.
Later, Ravindra leaves on an official tour, entrusting his pregnant wife Madhavi to Chakravarthy’s care. Chakravarthy frequently visits her home, but Nirmala grows suspicious of his affection for Madhavi. Out of jealousy, she writes an anonymous letter to Ravindra, making him doubt Madhavi’s purity and abandon her without explanation. Distraught, Madhavi takes shelter at her brother Sridhar’s home during her delivery, while Ravindra turns into an alcoholic. Madhavi’s health deteriorates, and Chakravarthy calls upon Sridevi to treat her. When Sridhar learns the situation, he confronts Ravindra, who presents the anonymous letter as proof. Chakravarthy identifies it as Nirmala’s ploy, rebukes her, and leaves the house. Enraged, Ravindra attempts to kill Chakravarthy but later dies in remorse after learning the truth about his sacred bond with Madhavi. Meanwhile, Nirmala too faces reproach from Shekar. As Madhavi’s condition worsens, Ravindra rushes back in repentance. With Chakravarthy’s help, Madhavi and her newborn son are saved. Just as Chakravarthy plans to leave abroad forever, Ravindra begs him to stay. At last, Ravindra honors him by naming the baby after Chakravarthy, and the film ends happily with the reunion of the family.
