Keeluguram Story

The film begins with Pranena, the emperor of Vidarbha, who while hunting is enticed by a demon yearning to wed him. She transfigures into a gorgeous Yakshini, Bhuvana Sundari, and Pranena lusts for her and marries her. Soon after, they return to the kingdom where his Queen Prabhavati welcomes Sundari as her own. Later, Sundari devours meals with elephants and horses at night, which Prabhavati senses as a bad omen. Frightened, Sundari incriminates Prabhavati, and the King mandates her decapitation despite her being pregnant. Soldiers pity her and leave her in the forest, plucking her eyes to show Sundari, who preserves them with her sister Yogini, a malignant demon. Blind Prabhavati delivers a son, Vikrama Simha, and the forest dwellers shelter them. Meanwhile, Sugunavati, princess of Anga, is abducted by Yogini, and her father promises his kingdom to whoever rescues her. Three intellects from Vidarbha—an Engineer, an Astrologer, and his assistant—discover Sugunavati’s whereabouts across the seas and construct a flying horse, “Keeluguram.” Years pass, Vikram grows gallant but is humiliated for being unaware of his lineage. Prabhavati reveals his past, and he vows to erase her disgrace. The Engineer presents the horse before Pranena, but Vikram triumphs with it, winning Pranena’s trust and becoming chief commander. The Engineer secretly schemes to gain Suguna, while Sundari plots Vikram’s death by sending him with a letter to Yogini, ordering his murder.

Vikram sets out on his adventurous journey. Midway, he saves Vidyavati, princess of Amaravati, from a wizard. She reads Sundari’s letter and rewrites it to protect him. Vikram reaches Yogini, who treats him well due to Vidya’s altered letter. Meanwhile, the three intellects keep watch. Vikram hears music, sees Suguna, and falls in love with her. He then discovers the demons’ life secret in two worms at a banyan tree, kills Yogini, and retrieves his mother’s eyes with medicine. On return, the Engineer betrays Vikram, abducting Suguna with the horse, but after a mid-air struggle they land in Amaravati, where Suguna kills the Engineer. Later, Vidya reveals Suguna as Vikram’s wife, and together they search for him but are captured by bandits. Simultaneously, Prabhavati arrives at the capital sensing danger, but Sundari imprisons her and decrees execution. A saint aids Vikram, freeing an angel’s curse, and helps him reach the palace with the worms, medicine, and his wives. Vikram restores his mother’s sight, exposes Sundari’s demonic nature, and kills her. Finally, the film ends happily with Vikram’s coronation.
