Raksha Rekha Story

Ruled by Rajasimha, who dotes on his only daughter, Kalavati. In her infancy, Markandeya Maharshi blesses and bestows a holy thread, “Raksha Rekha,” to shield her. Kalavati grows up opposed to wedlock, which perturbs her father. Sudhakara, Avanti’s prince, also shares the same feeling. Vexed, King Parthapa imprisons him in a dilapidated house in the forest with his acolyte Dooradarsi. One time, angels led by Chitra visit a nearby [[Vishnu]] temple and are mesmerized by the handsome sleeping prince. They lift him and bring him to Kalavati’s palace. In a trance, Kalavati and Sudhakara exchange rings and are married the next day. Tragically, Sudhakara is abducted by Chitra, who transforms him into a garland to entice him. Determined to retrieve her husband, Kalavati disguises herself as a man and sets out.

Along the way, Kalavati meets Princess Chandrika, who falls for her in disguise and marries her, later discovering the truth. Chandrika then vows to help Kalavati and joins her in searching for Sudhakara with Dooradarsi. Meanwhile, Chitra arduously tries to seduce Sudhakara, but failing, she transforms him into a statue and casts him into Chandrika’s palace. Kalavati, conscious of the truth, seeks to rescue Sudhakara with her devotion. Crestfallen, she casts off the “Raksha Rekha,” whereupon Markandeya Maharshi appears, restores Sudhakara to life, and curses Chitra to become a vampire. Finally, the film ends happily with the reunion of Kalavati and Sudhakara.
