Sati Savitri Story
Satya Harischandra–style in its devotion theme, Sati Savitri retells the legendary tale from the Mahabharata. Savitri (played by Anjali Devi) chooses Satyavan (Akkineni Nageswara Rao) as her husband, despite Sage Narada’s warning that he is destined to die within a year. Undeterred, Savitri weds him with unshakable faith and love. The couple live a humble but happy life in the forest, with Savitri standing by her husband with unwavering devotion.
As fate unfolds, Satyavan collapses and dies while cutting wood. Savitri, with her steadfast courage, follows Yama, the God of Death, who comes to claim Satyavan’s soul. Through her wisdom, humility, and determination, she impresses Yama, who grants her boons. Savitri cleverly asks for the well-being of her in-laws, prosperity, and finally children of her own — which would be impossible without Satyavan alive. Bound by his word, Yama restores Satyavan’s life. The film concludes with the triumph of Savitri’s devotion, making her a timeless symbol of chastity, courage, and marital love.
