Shanti Nivasam Story
The film begins with a wealthy, conscientious joint family residing in a palatial house called Shanti Nivasam. Ramadasu, an introvert, is its paterfamilias, and his virago wife, Shantamma. They have four progeny—three sons and a daughter. The elder son Ranga passed away, and his wife, Rama, lives with her two infants. The second is Raju, a frequent traveler who handles the totality, and his benevolent wife, Lakshmi, who idolizes her husband as a deity. The last, Gopi, is naughty and spends his life joyfully. Chitti, their haughty daughter, marries a callow man, Simhalu, but refuses to live with him because of his insane father, Paramanandayya. However, peace is absent at home since Shantamma constantly oppresses her daughters-in-law by provoking malicious Chitti. Once, Raju meets his childhood mate, Ragini, and often goes to her as a nag at the spookhouse. Meanwhile, Gopi falls for the beautiful Radha, the daughter of Advocate Seetapati Rao, whose stepmother, Vimalamma, torments her. Gopi adores a motherly bond with Lakshmi and shares everything with her, including his love affair. Chitti tricks Raju into suspecting their closeness. Unbeknownst to all, Vimalamma arranges Radha’s marriage with Gopi, and through a ploy, they wed. On that eve, as Lakshmi is fatigued being pregnant, Gopi moves to pick her up at the venue. Raju, witnessing this and fueled by Chitti’s words, misinterprets their bond and walks away, heartbroken, when Ragini shields and consoles him. Though she treats him as a brother, Raju mistakes her care, lavishes her with gifts, and begins spending his time away from home.
Radha moves into Shanti Nivasam, and the couple begins their playful life. Parallelly, Shantamma and Chitti’s cruelties increase, pushing Rama to the verge of leaving. Thus, Gopi appeals to his father, who reclaims authority, expels Shantamma, and forces Chitti to rejoin Simhalu. Lakshmi gives birth to a baby boy. Meanwhile, Ramadasu discovers Raju’s reckless expenses and cuts him off, enraging Raju, who returns home, clashes with his father, and accuses Lakshmi of infidelity. Shattered, Lakshmi attempts suicide until Gopi vows to bring his brother back. He goes to Ragini’s house, where Raju beats him and further slanders Lakshmi. Raju then insists Ragini accompany him, but she reveals her sibling bond, enraging him to the point of violence. Ramadasu and Simhalu arrive in time as Raju, overwhelmed by grudges, lashes out at Gopi and Lakshmi. Simhalu subdues him and drags him home. Heartbroken, Gopi confesses the truth to his mother, and Lakshmi faints under the burden of accusations. Simhalu then exposes Chitti’s treachery, clearing Lakshmi and Gopi’s sacred bond. Stricken by remorse, Raju dies. In despair, Gopi prepares for self-sacrifice, but Raju’s final implore awakens Lakshmi, bringing reconciliation. Finally, the movie ends happily with the reunion of the family.
