Sri Lakshmamma Katha Story
Lakshmamma, a noble lady, is the daughter of a landlord, Musalappa Naidu. She lives with her mother, Peramma, and brothers, Kotaiah Naidu and Chinna Kotaiah Naidu. Meanwhile, Venkaiah Naidu from Lingapuram lives with his mother, Venkamma, and sister, Pichamma, a widowed wife. Once Venkaiah sees Lakshmamma and falls in love with her. Musalappa accepts the proposal but stipulates matrilocality. Despite the disapproval of Venkamma and Pichamma, Venkaiah marries Lakshmamma. In time, she gives birth to a baby girl named Parvati. However, Venkaiah lusts for a courtesan, Rangasani. One night, when he attempts to steal Lakshmamma’s necklace for her, she obstructs him. Enraged, he beats her severely and abandons her. Kotaiah attempts to retrieve him but is humiliated. Lakshmamma then sets foot into her in-laws’ house, where her debauched husband deserts her, and she suffers torments at the hands of Venkamma and Pichamma.
Later, Lakshmamma, along with Subbaiah and Ramaiah, discovers a hidden treasure, and they proceed with their wives to Kotappakonda temple. Meanwhile, Venkamma schemes to marry Parvati to Pichamma’s insane son, which Lakshmamma strongly opposes. Parallelly, Venkaiah finds Rangasani with another man, and in his rage returns home, where Venkamma and Pichamma falsely accuse Lakshmamma, making him suspect her purity. Blinded by anger, Venkaiah stabs Lakshmamma, but divine lightning strikes, causing Venkaiah to lose his eyesight while Venkamma and Pichamma become mute. At last, Lakshmamma heals them with her holy powers. Finally, Lakshmamma is revered as a deity at Lingapuram till today.
