Vagdanam Story

The film begins with three childhood best friends: Vishwanatham, a Zamindar, Ranganatham, and Diwan Jagannatham. The villagers ostracize Jagannatham as he is married outside his caste. However, Vishwanatham befriends him, supports his son Suryam’s education, and wishes to marry his daughter Vijaya to him. This enrages the deceitful Ranganatham, who aspires to wed Vijaya to his arrogant son, Chandram. Suddenly, Jagannatham dies, causing Vishwanatham’s death as well, leaving Vijaya in Ranganatham’s custody. Meanwhile, Suryam completes his medicine, establishes a hospital in the village, and serves the poor. Unbeknownst, Suryam and Vijaya meet and fall in love. Later, Ranganatham imprisons Vijaya by misusing a power of attorney. At this time, Harikatha Bhagavathar Ramadasu arrives with his wife Balamani and son Padmanabham. Ramadasu’s niece, Radha, assists Suryam as a nurse and is also Vijaya’s friend. Parallelly, a love track develops between Padmanabham and Radha.

Ramadasu dreams of constructing a Rama Mandir, which Vijaya approves. Exploiting this, Ranganatham schemes to create rifts between Suryam and Vijaya by auctioning Suryam’s hospital for a debt incurred by Jagannatham. Suryam, undeterred, sets up a medical camp and continues his service. Vijaya regrets the misunderstanding but feels helpless. Moreover, Ranganatham slanders Suryam and Radha’s relationship, which Vijaya initially believes. During this crisis, Ramadasu stages a play, through which Vijaya learns her father’s true intentions and exposes Ranganatham’s conspiracy. Finally, the movie ends on a happy note with the marriages of the young couples.
