Vasantha Geetam Story
The film begins with Kumar, a famous singer. During one of his tours, he is mysteriously followed by the image of a beautiful girl in a photograph. Returning home, Kumar, who belongs to an orthodox Brahmin family led by his father Parabrahma Sastry, continues to be haunted by the vision. One night, he dreams of an ancient temple, and to his astonishment, he later discovers it is the Siva Puram temple. Feeling spiritually drawn there, he sets out on a journey. Along the way, he meets a strange man, Varma, who speaks as though he has known Kumar for ages. Confused, Kumar follows him to the temple, where memories of his past life resurface. Varma reveals their reincarnation story: in their previous life, Varma, the zamindar’s son, and Kumar, an orphan poet, were inseparable friends. Kumar’s poetry captivated a Devadasi named Madhavi, but Varma, infatuated with her, deceitfully claimed the verses as his own. Eventually, Madhavi discovered the truth and fell in love with Kumar. Though Varma arranged Madhavi’s marriage to himself, she fled, and as she and Kumar prepared to wed, Varma’s henchmen attacked them. Wounded, Kumar and Madhavi died tragically, leaving Varma stricken with guilt. He ended his life in remorse, and his soul remained bound, unable to find peace until he could undo his sin.
In the present, Varma seeks redemption by reuniting the reincarnated lovers. He informs Kumar that Madhavi has been reborn as Mary, a Christian girl. With Varma’s guidance, Kumar wins Mary’s heart. Astonishingly, Mary turns out to be the daughter of Kumar’s maternal aunt, Lakshmi, who had been disowned for marrying Joseph, a Christian. Parabrahma Sastry, still bound by orthodoxy, vehemently opposes the match, clashing with Joseph. With Varma’s help, Kumar and Mary stage a clever drama to expose the futility of prejudice, opening their parents’ eyes. At last, love triumphs as Kumar and Mary marry with family blessings. Varma’s soul, finally absolved, appears to bless the couple before ascending, bringing the story to a joyful close.
