Zamindar Story
During World War II, six soldiers—Narahari, Raja Rao (Raju), Jogindar, Johnny, Murthy, and Kumar—are tasked with transporting ₹25,00,000 from one camp to another. Halfway through, they conspire to seize the money, hide it, and pretend the enemies looted it. After the war, Joginder is dismissed from service and entrusted with guarding the treasure, while the rest return home. At the Calcutta railway station, Joginder is arrested, and amidst the chaos, Narahari takes Joginder’s box. Years later, Narahari enjoys social prestige, living with his wife Madam and daughter Saroja. Meanwhile, Seshagiri Rao (Seshu), a carefree radio mechanic nicknamed “Zamindar,” adores his elder brother Subba Rao—Narahari’s clerk—and sister-in-law Lakshmi as his parents. Seshu, fond of paranormal radio conversations, meets Saroja during a quarrel, where she mistakes his nickname for reality and believes he is a Zamindar. They fall in love. Her maternal uncle Hanumanthu, an amateur detective, also believes the claim and introduces Seshu as Zamindar to everyone. Though Saroja learns the truth, she urges Seshu to remain silent.
Meanwhile, Raju reappears, terrifying Narahari and tormenting him for the money. Narahari pleads ignorance, showing Joginder’s box, which contains only clothes and a pocket watch. Raju menacingly seizes half his property and learns of Seshu, exposing him before Narahari by confronting Subba Rao to claim Saroja. Humiliated, Narahari insults Subba Rao, enraging Seshu, who threatens Narahari. Exploiting this, Raju murders Narahari and frames Seshu, implicating Subba Rao as well. Seshu chases Raju’s men, and Saroja mistakenly believes him guilty. To protect Seshu, Subba Rao falsely incriminates himself. Though hated by all, Seshu stands firm. With no evidence, Subba Rao is acquitted, but Raju kidnaps him and Lakshmi. Meanwhile, Johnny, Murthy, and Kumar invade Narahari’s house in search of the treasure, holding the family captive. Raju joins them, pretending to be supportive. Seshu secretly monitors their moves, and Joginder resurfaces, revealing he had hidden the diamonds inside the pocket watch. A violent struggle ensues, but Seshu defeats them and rescues his family along with the diamonds. In the end, Seshu is revealed to be an undercover Indian secret agent assigned to solve the case. Finally, the movie ends happily with the marriage of Seshu and Saroja.
